Principle of operation

The handle contains a spring, a weight and a 'trigger' mechanism. The operator presses the durometer perpendicular to the surface and pushes on the handle. This way it compresses the spring to a certain force at which the trigger automatically releases the spring. This then projects the weight with precise energy onto the support rod of the indenter to obtain the appropriate test force.
