DEMOTEC 200

Light-curing mounting offers the advantages of speed, low viscosity, and optimal transparency. It uses a cold light source, without thermal radiation, and a low surface temperature rise of the illuminated product, preventing thermal damage during the mounting process.
The transparent liquid fills the voids in the sample, ensuring a strong bond between the sample and the mounting, thus ensuring perfect protection and retention of the sample during grinding and polishing.
  • All system components are light-curing. They are cured by irradiation in the safe UVA range of 350 to 400 nanometers. This means that plastics can be processed for a sufficiently long period of time in daylight or artificial light without having to worry about unwanted self-curing.
  • However, sunlight—even behind glass—should be avoided. It is sufficient to cure the plastic. Since none of the components need to be mixed, handling is very easy and there is no material loss. The high vapor pressure of the plastics allows for virtually odorless processing. Demotec 200 liquids are ready to use. Their curing only begins when you irradiate the inclusions in the device. A special feature of these plastics is that the curing process can be interrupted at any time by turning off the light source without adversely affecting the material's properties.
  • If the light sources are turned back on, the curing process continues. Even the smallest quantities of plastic or thin layers cure to optimum quality. These special characteristics allow for universal applicability and high flexibility. The best results are achieved reliably and reproducibly when the plastics are used in combination and cured in a suitable irradiation device. The good light transmission of Demotec polypropylene embedding molds promotes uniform curing.
  • When used correctly, gap-free embedding is achieved in most cases. Small samples such as wires, foils, films, or electronic components can be fixed and embedded in the desired position without any tools. In addition to the Demotec 200 base product, two bonding agents (two consistencies) are available to meet all requirements: very fine and thick.
    * The very fine bonding agent is particularly suitable for closing gaps, cracks, and pores in material samples and optimizing them for metallographic examinations. It is applied using a brush included in each 20 ml bottle or by immersing the sample. If the bonding agent does not penetrate deep enough into the gaps and cracks by normal means, it can be easily removed.
    * Thick bonding agent: For certain applications, it may be desirable to increase the adhesion between the resin and the sample. It is applied using a brush to the contact surface; the applied layer should not exceed 2 mm.
  • If the bonding agent is used with the base material, curing must be carried out using a powerful curing unit with multiple lamps. If only the binder needs to be cured in a thin layer, this is also possible with a single-beam curing unit.
  • The mounting mold is filled to the desired height with the clear, colorless base liquid. Ensure that the sample to be embedded is completely covered with the liquid. We recommend filling at least 3 mm above the highest point of the sample to avoid compromising the mounting quality. The base liquid has a syrup-like consistency. We therefore recommend filling the mounting molds with a thin stream to avoid air pockets. Filling begins with a "headspace" next to the sample to minimize the risk of trapped air bubbles.
  • The base liquid is cured in a powerful curing unit, observing the curing parameters: wavelength and time. The surface of the base fluid may remain slightly sticky due to oxygen inhibition. This can be easily avoided by applying a few drops of water (pipette). The best time to do this is during a break at the end of the irradiation: the coating will then be completely solidified (the water leaves no trace on the surface). If you forget to do this, you can repeat the process at any time after the end of the normal curing cycle: simply apply a little water and irradiate for another 2 minutes: the surface will then be completely free of adhesive.

Note: If the Demotec 200 system products are mixed with other products (liquid/powder), no guarantee can be given regarding metallographically perfect coatings.
